HOW DO LEAN PRACTICES RELATE TO QUALITY & SAFETY?

Lean helps fulfill safety objectives by providing a clean and organized workspace. It reduces hazards and creates an ergonomic environment that improves morale and positive thinking. Lean creates standards, which reduce hazards for increased work safety and communication. It provides a mechanism for problem solving, uncovering root causes and implementing solutions.

Lean practices reduce variation in the manufacturing process and increase consistency. The standardization methods reduce product variability resulting in fewer customer complaints. Lean also decreases product defects, which helps in waste management.

The following four Lean principles are used to identify and eliminate waste:
