The Leader in Progressive Cavity Pumps

Swiftly approaching possession of 20 patents in the field of artificial lift, KUDU is an industry leader in the manufacture of progressive cavity pumps (PCPs). No other company performs more research and development of artificial lift using progressive cavity pumps than KUDU Industries Inc. This reality allows us to be of indispensable use to companies involved in crude oil extraction and positions us as one of the largest providers of oilfield equipment in Alberta and beyond! For example, KUDU was selected by Shell Oil’s research department in The Hague to develop a progressive cavity pumps systems for use in wells in Oman, Jordan.

Progressive cavity pump systems were first installed in Canada in 1979 for the purpose of crude oil extraction; more specifically, to pump heavy, sand-laden crude oil. Since then, KUDU’s pumps and other oilfield equipment have been used in Alberta and all across Canada, where all of the subsequent development of PCPs for artificial lift took place. In fact, Canada accounts for 80% of the World market for PCP technology and KUDU is the second largest supplier of PCPs in the World. Following KUDU’s acquisition of Chriscor in 1999, we became the only supplier of PCP’s that manufactures all of the components of a PCP system.

KUDU’s founders originally distributed progressive cavity pumps invented and manufactured by PCM Pompes, S.A. (France). KUDU created the market for high volume PCPs in the high water-cut, medium crude oil wells of central Alberta, and, in alliance with PCM, has led the way in developing higher capacity and lift pumps from its inception. As an oilfield equipment provider to Alberta’s crude oil extraction industry, KUDU’s vision has expanded to the point where close to 40% of all Canadian oil wells use PCP’s for artificial lift.

Robert Mills and his son, Ray Mills, began investigating progressing cavity systems for crude oil extraction and other heavy oil applications in 1977. They founded Kudu Industries Inc. in 1989 to commercially distribute oilfield equipment throughout Alberta, such as PCPs and driveheads for heavy oil wells. Mills’ contributions to and direct contact with our customers and their challenges led to innovations which greatly increased the economic life of marginal medium and light gravity oil fields in natural water drive reservoirs. This is just a small example of the force KUDU Industries will continue to represent in the crude oil extraction industry!
